Adamawa house of assembly has officially commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngilari.
The lawmakers on Wednesday directed the clerk to serve the notices on Nyako and Ngilari in what is seen as a major offensive by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the governor and his deputy who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year.
All members of the house of assembly belong to the PDP.
Sources told TheCable in Yola, the state capital, that “Nyako is as good as gone” ─ except there is a last-minute intervention by the state elders.

“The only sentiment that has saved Nyako’s head so far is the local ethnic politics of Fulani versus the rest. That has kept him there for longer,” a state government official, who is sympathetic to the PDP, said.
If Nyako and Ngilari are impeached, the speaker will be sworn in as the new governor.
One of the charges against Nyako is illegal deductions from workers’ salaries.

Last week, the lawmakers asked the police to arrest four commissioners for refusal to honour invitations over the probe of the state’s finances.
