ADC: Uzodimma afraid to conduct transparent LG poll in Imo because APC won’t win

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo, is scared of conducting  LG election because the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not popular in the state.

In a statement released on Monday, Chilos Godsent, ADC national vice-chairman (south-east), said if a transparent LG election is allowed to be held in the state, APC would not secure any victories.

The party said local government administration can empower over 10,000 youths in the south-east state, including the development of rural communities and reduction in crimes.

“The leadership of our party, the ADC, is challenging the Uzodimma-led government to conduct local government council elections if he means well for the Imo people and if he also thinks that his party, APC is popular at the grassroots level,” the statement reads.

“If local government council election is held in the most transparent and all-inclusive manner, I bet the ruling APC may not find its feet.

“The LGA system, if democratically elected, can economically and politically empower over 10 thousand youths of Imo state, including the rapid development of rural communities and a drastic reduction in crimes.

“ADC party recognizes that democratic local government council system will enhance the leadership capacity and competence of the youths who will emerge as council chairmen, deputy council chairmen, councillors, supervisory councillors etc.

“Furthermore, ADC wishes to align itself with the popular opinions in the state that a democratic local government system will drastically reduce insecurity and crime rates in the state because some of the youths who indulge in these organised gangs and crimes may be doing so because of joblessness, unemployment and hardship that is currently ravaging our dear nation and state. That is why they say that an idle mind is a devil’s workshop.”

The ADC alleged that present and previous governments administered local government in the state through caretaker committees, transition committees and sole administrators, to perpetrate corruption.
