Adekuoroye, Adeniyi, Usman bag gold in women’s events

Odunayo Adekuoroye beat India’s Lalita Lalita to win the women’s free style 53 kg category gold medal match in mere 31 seconds at the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday.

Lalita was overwhelmed after a display of raw power from the Nigerian 21-year-old who must have learnt from her first round defeat in Delhi 2010 to the then Olympic and world champion, Carol Huynh of Canada.

The bronze medals went to South Africa’s Mpho Madi and Jill Gallays of Canada.

In the 58kg final, it was Nigeria getting the better of India yet again as Aminat Adeniyi beat Sakshi Malik to the gold medal.
