Olayide Adelami, the deputy governor of Ondo state, says his nomination was divinely ordered as he never lobbied for the position.
Adelami spoke on Friday, during a visit to traditional rulers in his hometown of Owo, Ondo state.
Adelami was nominated for the position of the deputy governor of Ondo by Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor, on Wednesday.
His nomination was confirmed by the Ondo state house of assembly on Thursday.

Adelami said he had been pursuing a federal appointment when he was nominated by the governor.
“I never contested for deputy governor; I was looking for a federal appointment when I was called to be a deputy. I do not take this opportunity for granted,” he said.
“Divine providence made this happen. I will serve the people of Ondo state to the best of my ability.”

Adelami started his thank-you visit from the palace of Gbadegeshin Ogunoye, the Olowo of Owo.
He also visited Kofoworola Oladoyinbo, Ojomoluda of Ijebu-Owo; Ebenezer Adewumi-Ogunmolasuyi, Olupenmen of Upenmen; Ademola Oyinbade, Oloba of Uso; and Kokumoa Olotupa, Alale of Idasen.
He expressed his appreciation to Aiyedatiwa for considering him worthy of the position.
He also thanked the traditional rulers for their support and expressed his gratitude for being appointed.

He assured that he would do everything in his power to bring development to the state.
He also pledged to collaborate with the governor in advancing the state and to assist in reconciling aggrieved party members.
