Ademola Adeleke, the Osun governor, has approved the dissolution of all non-statutory boards in the state’s ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

Non-statutory boards are created by executive decisions such as a directive by the government, and as such, they do not have formal legal backing.

According to Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke’s spokesperson, the directive was conveyed to heads of MDAs by Teslim Igbalaye, the secretary to the state government (SSG), in a memo on Tuesday.

“As a follow-up to the pronouncement of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, on Sunday, 27th November, 2022, all non-statutory boards, commissions and parastatals including those of Tertiary Institutions (with exception of UNIOSUN) are hereby dissolved in the State forthwith,” the statement reads.

Adeleke was sworn in as the sixth executive governor of the state on Sunday.

In his inauguration speech, Adeleke had said he would review all appointments made by his predecessor from July 17.

On Monday, TheCable reported how Adeleke approved the suspension of Segun Oladitan, chairperson of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), over alleged financial impropriety and abuse of office.

The governor has also reversed the appointments of three traditional rulers, saying it will be reviewed to ensure there was strict compliance with due process of chieftaincy declarations and native law.
