Aero Contractors, a Nigerian-based airline, says it is cooperating with the relevant agencies investigating a runway incursion by one of its aircrafts.
Around 10:47 a.m. on Sunday, one of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport runways, Abuja, was temporarily shut after a landing mishap involving an Aero Contractors aircraft — Boeing 737 with nationality and registration marks 5N-BYQ.
According to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the mishap occurred when the Lagos-Abuja bound flight landed at the airport and was taxiing on runway A4 when its nose wheel got stuck.
However, in a statement on Sunday, Ado Sanusi, the Aero Contractors’ managing director, apologised on behalf of the aviation company for the discomfort to the passengers.
Sanusi said all the 133 passengers involved were “safely evacuated through a controlled disembarkation”.
“We apologise for the inconveniences caused to our customers and other airport users,” Sanusi said.
“Our team with the assistance of the airport management have already towed the aircraft from the taxiway.
“We are equally cooperating with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the National Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) as they carry out their investigations.
“Our mantra in Aero Contractors is safety; our long history is a testimony to this.”
