Mauritian referee, Rajindraparsad Seechurn, has been suspended for six months for “poor refereeing” after his decision to award Equatorial Guinea a controversial penalty against Tunisia in their quarter final clash of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced its decisions after disciplinary meetings on Monday and Tuesday about the chaotic scene involving players, coaches and officials at Saturday’s AFCON game.
Seechurn awarded the host a contentious penalty deep into stoppage time, which saw the side equalise and take the game to extra time.
The Guineans then went on to win the game 2-1 to progress to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Tunisia’s football federation was fined $50,000 for “the insolent, aggressive and unacceptable behaviour of the players and officials of the Tunisian team” during the game.
Tunisia players were guilty of insulting and trying to assault the referee after the game and the country’s national federation president even went onto the field to confront the referee.
The Equatorial Guinean football federation was also fined $5,000 for “the pitch invasion by some Equatoguinean fans and the lack of security measures observed” in the game.
