Stanley Nwabali, Super Eagles goalkeeper, says he is still in pain from the injury sustained in the round of 16 tie against Cameroon on Saturday night.

Nigeria scored once in each half to end Cameroon’s AFCON journey while the Super Eagles moved to the quarter-finals stage thanks to Ademola Lookman’s brace.

Nwabali, the coach’s preferred goalkeeper ahead of Francais Uzoho, was injured in the second half following a collision with Cameroonian midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

The Chippa United goalkeeper requested to be substituted on 80 minutes following the incident.

Speaking with journalists after the match, the 27-year-old said the severity of the injury is still being assessed by the national team doctors.

“Maybe the doctor would tell,” he said while giving an update.

“But I’m still feeling pains. You know when injury is new, you always feel pains.”

The injury makes Nwabali a doubt for Nigeria’s quarter-final clash with Angola, a situation which may force Jose Peseiro, Super Eagles gaffer, to rely on either Uzoho or Olorunleke Ojo.

Nigeria will face free-scoring Angola in the quarter-final on Friday, February 2.
