Tunisia earned its first point of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a 1-1 draw against Mali in their Group E encounter at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo on Saturday.

Both goals came in the first half as Tunisia failed to beat Mali for the fourth consecutive meeting.

Lassine Sinayoko put Mali ahead but Tunisia equalised through Hamza Rafia as the Carthage Eagles scored their first goal of the tournament in Ivory Coast.

A sleek interplay by Mali found Sinayoko on the edge of the box but the forward skipped past two defenders before sending a low shot into the far corner via the base of the post to put his country ahead ten minutes into the encounter.

Tunisia equalised 10 minutes later when Rafia reacted first to a low cross to poke home from around the penalty spot for 1-1.

The Eagles of Mali went closest to scoring in the second half as the game ended in a draw.

In Group D, Angola defeated Mauritania 3-2 in a five-goal thriller to move to four points, level with Burkina Faso who were held to a 2-2 draw by Algeria — who required a last-minute goal to steal a point off the Stallions.
