Female journalists have a chance to win a $1,000 reporting grant from pitching story ideas at the 2018 African Women in the Media conference.
The theme of the conference, which is scheduled to hold on June 21 and 22 at the University of Ibadan Conference Centre, is Visibility.
The conference, which boasts of participants from 20 countries, will have four industry panels, four academic panels, and eight training workshops in areas like data journalism, digital marketing.
CNN’s Nima Elbagir has been announced as the keynote speaker of the event.

Some of the other facilitators scheduled for the event are Hannah Ojo from The Nation, Lola Shoneyin, an author, Ayobami Ojebode, professor at the University of Ibadan, Funke Durodola from Radio Nigeria, Yinka Ibukun from Bloomberg News, Gabriela Torres, BBC World Service, Digiclan and Asher Mwilu, 2016 CNN African Journalist of the Year.
“African Women in the Media was instituted in 2016, with the aim of building a network of female African content producers that want to influence
positively, the way in which media functions in relation to African women,” a statement by the organisers read.
“Our annual conference aims to inspire delegates through industry and academic panel discussions and support them through our Pitch Zone where
they have the opportunity to pitch ideas to national and international media, and to win a $1,000 reporting grant. And finally to empower them through our training workshops.

“Over two days, we will empower delegates with the skills and inspiration they need to achieve recognition for their work and be visible role models.”
African Women in the Media, founded by Yemisi Akinbobola, is a group for African women working in the media, anywhere in the world, who want to improve the way the media functions in relation to women.
The 2017 edition of the conference was hosted by Birmingham City University, UK.
