Enugu swears in new deputy governor

Reverend Ifeanyichukwu Nwoye, who was cleared by the state house of assembly on Thursday, has been sworn in as the new deputy governor of Enugu state.

Following the impeachment of Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, the assembly cleared Nwoye to succeed him.

Justice Innocent Umezurike, the chief judge of the state, administered the oath of office on the new deputy governor at the Enugu state government house.

Congratulating his new deputy, Governor Sullivan Chime said the removal of Onyebuchi was in the interest of the state, adding that the emergence of Nwoye will pave the way for a smooth running in the affairs of governance in the state.

“Nwoye is not a new person to me. We were together during the previous administration as commissioners. I know what he can bring to this government,” he said.

“Government draws the analogy from a broken down vehicle that requires a plug to be changed. We have just serviced the engine and we now expect the vehicle to move better and more freely.

“What has happened, I believe it happened in the best interest of Enugu state and not only government.”

Meanwhile, the former deputy governor has been redeployed to a ministry in the civil service.

Yet he maintains innocence of the allegations that formed the basis for his removal and vows to seek legal redress.
