Agbele, Fayose’s associate, remanded in prison over arms fund

A federal high court in Abuja has remanded Abiodun Agbele, an associate of Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, in Kuje prison pending the determination of his application for bail.

Nnamdi Dimgba, the judge, gave a ruling remanding Agbele in prison on Wednesday after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned him on an 11-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N1.2bn.

Agbele is alleged to have unlawfully received the money from the office of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA).

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Mike Ozekhome (SAN), counsel to Agbele, had asked the court to grant his client bail, but Johnson Ojogbane, counsel to the EFCC, objected to his request.

Ojogbane asked the court to remand the accused person in prison all through the duration of his trial.

After listening to the counsel, the judge adjourned to Thursday for ruling on the application.
