The Nigeria Pillar of Sports, a group led by Donatus Agu Ejidike, has donated trophies and kits to Kenneth Orizu, the Igwe of Nnewi, ahead of the maiden edition of the monarch’s soccer tournament.
The group presented the items at the palace of the monarch in Anambra state on Saturday to support the tournament titled Igwe Orizu soccer championship.
The competition is expected to feature young footballers under the age of 20 from different parts of the state.

In his remark, Ajide Olayioye, the group’s office chairman, said sports is integral to the country’s unity, adding that it has also influenced lives of many Nigerians positively.
He enjoined the people of Nnewi to join the Igwe-in-council to support the office of the Nigeria Pillar of Sports in organising a successful competition.
On his part, Ejidike described the initiative as his own way of giving back to the society and contributing to the socio-economic development of Nnewi.

Akonam Obiefuna, chairman of the state chapter of the Nigerian Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YOUSFON), hailed the monarch for supporting the initiative.
Responding, the Igwe appreciated Ejidike for coming up with the “noble idea of investing in humanity.”
Winners of the competition are expected to get a cash prize yet to be revealed while outstanding players would be selected for novelty matches against Kwara State-based ABS Ilorin FC and Kwara United football club.
