Airtel has the largest 4G network in Nigeria, says MD

Segun Ogunsanya, managing director, Airtel Nigeria, says the telecommunications company has the largest 4G network in Nigeria.

Ogunsaya said this at the launch of Fourth Generation Long Term Evolution (4G LTE) network in Lagos.

He said the telecommunications company had set the pace in revolutionising “super fast” internet services in the country.

The MD said the company plans to get the 4G LTE network into 100 cities before the end of March 2019.

“Early this year, we began a very interesting journey of building the largest and the most robust 4G network in the country,” he said.

“We’re not the first, we don’t claim to be the first, but we’re going to be the best and the largest. 56 cities, 16 states— there is no other network in this country with that spread.

“It gives me great pleasure to officially launch Airtel 4G in Lagos, the commercial nerve centre in Nigeria, the centre of excellence.

“This launch serves as a glowing testimony of our commitment to partner and empower the very great people of Lagos.”

The Airtel MD said there are plans in the future to launch the 5G LTE network which has already taken off in some parts of the US and China.

“Technology is an evolution. As we’re launching 4G, we are thinking ahead. But I assure you that we’re not going to be left behind. That I can assure you,” he said.

Also speaking, Dinesh Balsingh, acting chief commercial officer, Airtel Nigeria, said high speed connectivity is what sets the service apart from others.

“The 4G LTE is a step in the right direction. It is not just about having it in a few cities or isolated pockets but about having a widespread coverage so that you can experience 4G wherever you go,” he said.

“I personally hope you will enjoy this great 4G experience wherever you go in the country.”

In February, Airtel did a pioneer launch of its 4G LTE service in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The service has also been launched in various states and major cities across the country, including but not limited to the federal capital territory, Abuja, Enugu, Anambra, Uyo, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Ekiti, and Delta.
