Airtel launches 4G in Edo

Airtel Nigeria has deployed its 4G services in Edo state in a bid to “modernise its network infrastructure across the country”.

In a statement on Friday announcing the launch, Oladapo Dosunmu, regional operations director, Airtel Nigeria, said the upgrade will empower individuals and transform businesses through technology, leading to economic growth in the state.

“With this launch, we will power people, businesses and aid governance through Technology. Specifically, our 4G launch in Benin and across Edo State will help boost commerce and also provide entrepreneurs a veritable platform to connect with more stakeholders,” the statement quoted him as saying.

“In implementing this network upgrade and expansion, we hope it will help improve productivity, spread prosperity, and help the residents and telecoms consumers in Edo to fulfill their potentials as well as realize their dreams.”

Also speaking during the launch, Philip Shuaibu, deputy governor of Edo state, said the government was willing to partner with Airtel to make the region a “hub of digital network” for the youth.

“I want our youth to take advantage of today’s launch to expand their business and horizon; the world is a global place and Edo state is the home of civilization and we will continue to support investment in technology,” he said.

The statement said to connect to the Airtel 4G network in Edo, a telephone consumer would need a 4G enabled device and also expected to upgrade his or her SIM to a 4G SIM to enjoy the service.
