Airtel now barring unregistered lines

Airtel Nigeria has commenced the barring of unregistered lines in accordance to the dictates of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The company made the announcement in a statement on Thursday, urging its customers to complete their subscriber identity module (SIM) card registration process.

“Following the directive from Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to ensure that all customers on our network, who are yet to fully complete their SIM registration requirements, are barred from using their lines, we wish to inform you that the barring of non-compliant lines has commenced on the Airtel Network,” the telco said.

“If you have been barred or received a message that you will be barred as a result of this process, we appeal to you to kindly reactivate your line or update your records accordingly to continue enjoying our quality services.

“Please, visit any of our Airtel express shops or KYC registration centers across the country to update your registration details.”

The carrier, with a subscriber base of over 30 million customers in Nigeria, said those with registered lines should rest, assured that their lines would remain functional and that services will not be interrupted.

Airtel has achieved a 20 per cent market penetration in the Africa’s most populous telecoms market, Nigeria.
