Aisha Buhari, wife of the president, has appealed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to renege on the promise of paying N5,000 stipend to unemployed youths in the country.
Reacting to the development that unfolded at the senate over the issue, Mrs. Buhari, who partook actively in the campaign of the APC, reminded the ruling party of its promise.
“Her Excellency Aisha Buhari has appealed to the ruling party All Progressives Congress, APC not to renege on their campaign promise of paying N5,000 to 25 million unemployed Nigerians and giving school children one free meal a day,” read a statement issued on her behalf by Adebisi Olumide, her media aide.
“This comes after the senators from the party voted against the senate moving a motion calling on the presidency to pay the N5,000 allowance.

“The APC is a party of integrity and had assured Nigerians during the campaign that it would pay 5,000 naira each month to 25 million most vulnerable citizens.
“The wife of the president asked Nigerians to be patient with the APC government as the change they had been yearning for had come to stay.”

Implementing this would amount to 125 billion naira monthly which would be 1.5 trillion naira annually. What sort of budget would accommodate that??
APC did the math rather late in the campaign and promptly withdrew that promise. Unfortunately word had already gone out.
Why did the APC not think before promising what they would not be able to fulfil?
Yes, Mr. Sane Sleek is right that APC did the
math wrong and that no budget considering the economic situation in Nigeria
today could accommodate such huge amount of money. The APC government must find a common ground to fulfil the campaign promise. If it’s only N3000 is paid per
month for a start that will be helpful to our unemployed graduates in millions. Nigeria is rich enough to introduce social security system as obtained in the EU countries. No matter how small it starts with the experiment? This will create a sense of belonging to Nigerians and reduce social unrest. If countries like Spain, Italy, Greece, Hungry and Bulgaria to name but few could have social security system, why can’t Nigeria? After all we are richer than them in both economic and human resources. I suggest this to serves as a call for debate on NIGERIA’S Introduction of Social Security System.
