Aisha Buhari, wife of the president, has called for justice for Khadija Bashir, the 8-month-old baby that was raped six months after birth.
Khadija was allegedly defiled by the husband of her mother’s close friend, Muktakar Muhammad.
During her visit to the baby at the Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) Kano on Saturday, Buhari urged the judiciary to ensure that the perpetrator is punished according to the provisions of the law.
“Government should follow this case to its logical conclusion. You should leave no stone unturned in the course of handling this case,” she said.

The wife of the president was accompanied by Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of the vice-president.
Meanwhile, the Kano state government has expressed sadness over the news of Khadija’s rape.
Mohammed Garba, the state commissioner of information, in a statement said the government would ensure that whoever is found involved in in the “sordid sexual crime” is sentenced to jail for life.

Garba said the act “is alien to our religious and cultural values and stressed that the action clearly portrayed the perpetrator brutal, unfeeling and the culprit deserved nothing more than the maximum penalty under the law”.
The alleged perpetrator, who is currently in detention, has reportedly hired 10 lawyers to defend him.
