Aisha Buhari, wife of the president, has pledged her continuous support for the health and wellbeing of women and children across the country.
NAN reports that Buhari gave the assurance on Saturday during an award ceremony to mark the third anniversary of her NGO, the Future Assured Program.
According to her, the health and wellbeing of women and children in Nigeria have been deteriorating over time and needs to be tackled.
“Future Assured started out of my passion for the health and wellbeing of women and children in the society,” she said.

“The overriding objective of Future Assured is to contribute to improve outcomes in Nigeria, especially in the areas health, empowerment, education and human rights.
“Primarily, Future Assured came about to intervene in addressing the deteriorating health conditions of women and children in terms of maternal, neonatal, child, adolescent health and nutrition.”
She said her NGO will work to “complement” the federal government’s efforts to achieve universal health coverage.

Listing some of its achievements, she said the Future Assured Program is an advocate for girl-child education and has provided scholarships to indigent pupils, with added support for older women to complete their education in cases where they had not done so.
She noted that her collaboration with well-meaning Nigerians and development partners, especially the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, had enabled the NGO to impact positively on the lives of Nigerians.
The president’s wife gave assurance that the NGO would continue to provide support for victims of child abuse and other forms of abuse, with a focus on surgeries for children with congenital problems.
