Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo, has pledged his support for the continuity of the western Nigeria security network, codenamed Amotekun.

The regional security outfit was founded on January 9, 2020, and charged with the responsibility of curbing insecurity in the states of the region.

Speaking after a 5 kilometre walk with the commanders of Amotekun in honour of Rotimi Akeredolu, the late former governor of the state, on Thursday, Aiyedatiwa appreciated the corps for protecting the lives and properties of citizens in the zone.

“I can assure you that Amotekun will be sustained because of its role in the society,” he said.

“Because the security of lives and properties of the people of the southwest zone is very important to us, we will use whatever is in our possession to support and sustain it.

“Therefore, I commend the Amotekun corps commanders and their men for honouring the late Akeredolu whose passage was a monumental loss to the state and Amotekun as a whole.”

Adetunji Adeleye, the Ondo commander of Amotekun, said Akeredeolu played a significant role in the formation and legitimacy of the security outfit.

“All the corps commanders travelled from their various states today. That’s the essence of the 5km walk we embarked on today,” he said

“The good work Akeredolu did, mainly in the security system in the southwest, is worth mentioning.

“We all knew what the security situation was before the creation of Amotekun, that’s about three years ago, and we are living testimony of the fact that security in the southwest has greatly improved.

“We are resolute in continuing the good work that he started. That’s our contribution to immortalising him as our great leader.”
