Akin Fadeyi Foundation to launch anti-corruption app on Thursday

The Akin Fadeyi Foundation will on Thursday launch FLAG’IT, a mobile application that will empower Nigerians to report corruption.

According to a statement by the foundation, the launch will take at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, by 10am.

The project, which the foundation said is targeted at promoting the anti-corruption war in the country, is being sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation.

“With FLAG’IT App, citizens shall be able to report and document their experiences around corruption and engage with government officials on issues bordering service delivery and corrupt practices across the country,” Fadeyi, executive director of the foundation, said in a statement.

“The App also has a feature for documenting positive stories about credible and outstanding public officers.”

“We are trying to explore a technology-driven approach and empower citizens’ to report corruption. Through this, we hope to stimulate accountability and inspire confidence in our public institutions.

“The FLAG’IT App is a valuable tool in our ambitious quest for a corrupt-free public service. We, therefore, implore Nigerians to download FLAG’IT after the launching from October 10 and work with us in demanding for a transparent and accountable institutions in our anti-corruption fight.”

Among the dignitaries expected at the event are Itse Sagay, chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption; Simon Kolawole, founder of TheCable Newspaper; Dapo Olorunyomi, publisher of Premium Times; Boboye Oyeyemi, corp marshal of Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Kole Shettima, co-director on Nigeria and Africa director, MacArthur Foundation;  and Oliver Stolpe, country representative, United Nations Office On Drugs and Crime.

Last year, the foundation entered into a partnership with the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) to fight corruption.
