Akoh asks: Does Peace Corps have the funds to bribe entire n’assembly?

Dickson Akoh, national commandant of the Nigerian Peace Corps, says his organisation did not give bribe to any lawmaker for the passage of the Peace Corps bill.

A report had said some senators were bribed with cash and slots for the bill to sail through.

But in a statement on Sunday, Akoh described the allegations as a “campaign of calumny” aimed at distracting the presidency from giving assent to the bill.

The commandant said no youth organisation could boast of having the financial capacity to bribe any lawmaker in the national assembly which comprised of former governors, business moguls and ministers.

“My attention was drawn to the article on social media that cast the PCN in a contemptuous light, but on a second thought, they may be referring to a rival organisation, National Unity And Peace Corps led by one Mr. Chinedu Nneji, whose Bill was nipped in the bud by the national assembly,” the statement by Akoh read.

“From the foregoing, I wish to posit that it is most unfortunate that it has become a trade in stock for some individuals or groups, nowadays, to pre-occupy themselves with character assassination and distortion of obvious facts and figures against this noble objective.

“We recall too that the two chambers of the national assembly, as part of the legislative processes, organised public hearings in their respective chambers in respect of NPC bill.

“Over 570 Memorandum were received and 300 oral submissions made during the Public Hearings. In all of these, it was only four submissions and presentations that were against the passage of the bill. Public Hearing is one of the most important part of bill making processes.

“Does it mean Peace Corps bribed its way into the hearts of all individuals and institutions, including federal government ministries/agencies, traditional and religious institutions that all advocated for the passage of the bill?

“Certainly, NPC is on the part to greatness. The question now begging for answers from every rational mind is that can any youth based organisation has the financial capacity or wherewithal to bribe a single senator or house of representatives member, how much more of the entire national assembly members and its leadership some of whom where former governors, ministers, business moguls, retired generals etc.

“After the passage of the bill, we do expect deliberate and calculated campaign of calumny by those who want to truncate it being assented to by the Mr President.”

  1. It is not true you did not give bribe in cash and in slot to deny the ordinary qualified Nigerians from getting the job. after all, Nigerian senate is a bribe given and taken senate.

  2. Some people assumption and conclusion in this country is funny. Some others countries base monthly salary for their youth with out the youth doing anything, not to talk the once that we be puting on the uniform working under the sun and rain. Pls, Mr complainer don’t complain rather be happy to know that some of the unemploy younth we be engaged here and drop their criminals business and responsible for their self and their family members, friends and the rest entire community.Meanwhile, if Nigeria government what to create more para-military agencies that are base on arresting any goat and cow disturbing neighbors they can do that and the money is there. Let engaged the youth and the country will be less of criminals free.

  3. How can one go and start giving bribe out. Some people just say things that even them don’t know it’s true. This some one who is fighting for the benefit of all youths today and the once to come. Someone who has been humiliated by the police without evidence what so ever but he never gave out bribe until now? Let’s sometimes not just read allegations but also think about such allegation. Akoh means well for the youth and it pains me that some hyenas are out there to tarnish his image. Only God we bless him for remembering the youth. And God bless the Senate president and all the senators and reps of our country Nigeria

  4. PCN, is not baby but adult, ask how it’s started, grace of God is upon Nigeria Peace Corps.God thank you for all you have done.

  5. Your comment..Its only in Nigeria that the youths are prone to becoming criminals at the expense of greed and selfishness in the mist of God’s given natural resources that can carter for as many Nigerians as possible. l convinced that most of these folks criticizing these noble Nass members are gainfully employed that’s why they have the guts to insult these men of integrity so, but fellow Nigerians, this country loses nothing for establishing NPC in any way rather it will gain more on capacity and nation building objective of the organization and lots more. Dr. Akoh in this case is God’s messenger for this assignment for such a time as this, so nobody abuse him to avoid God’s wrath in entire generation. Be guided, we should not play politics with the destinies of Nigerian youths,God bless you all commentators on this mater of the now.
