Akpeyi, Odey, Onyekuru… TheCable’s team of the week

After a pulsating week that saw a couple of Nigerian players perform, TheCable picks the best XI.

Daniel Akpeyi [Kaizer Chiefs]

He made a series of incredible saves and kept a fired up Polokwane City out before eventually succumbing. Before that and afterwards, he stopped some thunderbolt shots. Outrageous.

Shawn Adewoye [Genk]

Adewole ran the show with determination and intelligence, cutting in when necessary. The defender kept Foussballclub Déifferdeng 03 attackers at bay from Genk’s goal area. Organised.

Igho Ogbu [Sogndal]

The youngster stood his ground closing down every attempt by Ullenkaser to bypass him. Outstanding.

Olaide Badmus [Valmeira]

The young lad was the main component of a laudable Valmeira defence. Obstinate.

Ifeanyi Matthew [Lillestrøm]

He tortured the visitors throughout and never allowed the enemies’ border any respite. Ominous.

Obinna Nwobodo [Ujpest]

As usual, everything went through him. Pushed forward continuously and might have scored another if not for the outstanding performance from Paksi goalkeeper. Optimum.

Moses Simon [Nantes]

Simon saw lots of action and got into the right place at the right time to score against Le Havre. He was always a handful and his strong running was always purposeful. Optimal.

Henry Onyekuru [Monaco]

Onyekuru provided an assist for Monaco during their win against AZ Alkmaar. Kept probing the Dutch side who had no answer. Obtrusive.

Stephen Odey [Genk]

Like a monster from a horror film, marching inexorably towards his victims, he could not be stopped. Played the starring role in a deadly hat-trick to the opponent. Opportunistic.

Sadiq Umar [Partizan Belgrade]

Caused trouble from the moment the whistle went off and topped a superb performance with a sparkling goal. Olympian.

Victor Boniface [Bodo/Glimt]

Boniface showed all the enthusiasm of a striker when getting the ball to score. Omniscient.
