Akpomughe seeks collective action against drug abuse

Kelly Akpomughe, founder of the Live Right and Stay Out of Drugs Foundation

Kelly Akpomughe, founder of the Live Right and Stay Out of Drugs Foundation, has called for urgent and collective action against drug abuse.

Speaking at a gathering of advocates and stakeholders in Lagos, Akpomughe highlighted the devastating impact of substance abuse and the responsibility of society in addressing the crisis.

He described life as a gift that must be protected and warned that addiction is a silent thief that affects people across all backgrounds.

“When substance abuse takes hold, it robs individuals of their potential and dreams. It is our duty to educate and support those affected,” he said.

Ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which holds every June 26, Akpomughe urged policymakers and citizens to take decisive action.

“This day is a wake-up call to raise awareness, educate the public, and advocate for policies leading to a drug-free society,” he added.

He implored government agencies, organisations, community leaders, and young people to work with the foundation in tackling drug abuse.

Akpomughe reminded guests that no family is immune from substance abuse.

“We need volunteers, educators, businesses, and financial backing to expand our outreach,” he said.

“Drug abuse affects everyone, regardless of background. Fighting it is a collective responsibility.”

He encouraged donations to fund educational programmes and rehabilitation centres that can help individuals and families recover from drug abuse.

“This is not just a dream. It is a vision we can achieve together. But it starts with action, commitment, and you,” he concluded.
