The Akwa Ibom government has announced free match tickets for the Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup qualification match against Zimbabwe.
In a statement on Monday, Paul Bassey, the state’s sports commissioner, said Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom governor, has purchased all 30,000 tickets for the match billed to be played on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
The Eagles will face Zimbabwe in the sixth game of their World Cup qualifiers.
The team is currently in a perilous situation after failing to win the first four matches of the campaign. The disappointing run of results included a 1-1 draw to Zimbabwe in November 2023.

Nigeria’s only victory in the qualifiers came on Friday against Rwanda. The Eagles sit fourth in the qualification group with six points from five matches.
Bassey said the free match ticket would be distributed to fans at some venues in the state: All radio stations, De Venus Bar and Restaurant along Stadium Road, Uyo Township Stadium, Plaza Management Committee Office, and all previous sales agents and centres.
Earlier, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) promised to give out Super Eagles jerseys to the first 500 fans to get tickets for the game.

A win for Nigeria against Zimbabwe would boost their chances of qualification, while any other result will compound the country’s chance of reaching the 2026 World Cup.
