Akwa Ibom guber poll was ‘peaceful, fair and credible’

The recently concluded governorship and state assembly elections in Akwa Ibom state has been adjudged “peaceful, free, fair and credible.”

This was contained in a report submitted to the deputy inspector general of police in charge of the department of operations by Ibrahim S. Kaoje, commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom.

In the concluding part of the 12-page report, Kaoje said without any equivocation, the “governorship and state House of Assembly election held on 9th March, 2019 in Akwa Ibom state was relatively peaceful, free, fair and credible.”

“The security agencies led by the Nigerian police provided conducive security environment for the peaceful conduct of this election,” he said.

Before the elections, Kaoje was accused by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, of being the arrow- head of the federal might that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had promised to unleash on the state.

He was alleged to have been sent specifically to ensure the APC “captured” Akwa Ibom by all means.

He was also accused of holding several open and nocturnal meetings with key opposition stakeholders on how to thwart the peoples’ will and ensure victory for the APC.
