Social welfare commissioner promises better life for women, PWDs in Akwa Ibom

Ini Adiakpan, commissioner for women affairs in Akwa Ibom, has promised to support women, children and people with disabilities (PWDs).

She made the promise after she was bestowed with an award for her outstanding support towards changing the narratives for the vulnerable in Nigeria.

She was bestowed with the honour by the National Council on Women Affairs (NCWS) during its 23rd Regular National Council Meeting which took place in Calabar, the Cross River state capital.

The event was put together by the federal ministry of women affairs and social welfare, with the theme; “Gender Equality: Bridging the Social Inclusion Gaps for Economic Development”.

She appreciated the recognition and reiterated that she will continue to help improve lives, especially for women and children, even after she leaves office.

While presenting the award, Monilola Udoh, permanent secretary, federal ministry of women affairs, commended the commissioner for her outstanding role in making lives livable for the needy and implored other women to emulate her.

The meeting highlighted the collective commitment towards promoting gender equality, social inclusion and economic development in Nigeria.

It also emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to change the society for good.
