Tanko Al-Makura, Nasarawa state governor, has given the approval to dissolve the governing council of three state-owned tertiary institutions.
Mohammed Abdullahi, the secretary to the state government, announced this on Friday in Lafia, the state capital.
According to Abdullahi, the affected institutions are College of Education, Akwanga, College of Agriculture, Lafia and Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia.
The dissolution is coming few days after the institutions’ workers embarked on an industrial action to protest the government’s alleged refusal to address better welfare related issues.

The workers, under the aegis of the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions (JUTI), told journalists on Wednesday in Lafia that all efforts to resolve the dispute amicably had proved abortive.
Samuel Bashayi, chairman of the state’s chapter of JUTI, regretted that the union’s repeated notices were ignored, while listing key areas of concern to include promotion, annual increment, arrears, among others.
“Instead of paying our allowances, the government has chosen to dare us by removing even the allowances we used to take for granted,” Bashayi had said.

Abdullahi thanked the chairmen and members of the councils for their services and wished them well in their future endeavours, adding that the dissolution of the councils took immediate effect.
