Al-Makura: I’m prepared for another impeachment battle

Governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, has said that he is set to go through another hurdle of impeachment proceedings from the state house of assembly.

The lawmakers had filed 16 count allegations against him in July but the panel set up to investigate the allegations gave the governor a clean bill of health, a development which the lawmakers kicked against.

There are fresh reports that they are plotting to commence fresh proceedings.

But describing the impeachment plot as a mere speculation, Al-Makura said he was not in any way worried about it. ‎

“That is within the realm of speculation; I don’t want to respond to speculation. But once we get to the bridge, we will cross it,”‎ the governor said during a visit to the Presidential villa in Abuja.

He said that he was in Abuja to give the president an update on the security situation in the state, adding that normalcy was gradually returning to the state, which has been engulfed in communal clashes in recent times.

“You are aware that we have faced certain security challenges in my state, but by God’s grace we are on top of the situation.

“I can assure you that things are calming down now; we are on top of the situation now,” he said.

The governor further disclosed that he has initiated a community-based resolution mechanism, involving stakeholders in order to arrive at a lasting solution to the security crisis.

“We believe that where you have the participation of all, you find it easy to solve the problem and lessen the burden and responsibility of when to take care of the situation.

“Government has already set up a judicial commission of inquiry and the White Paper is already out. Government has started implementing some aspects of the White Paper, especially the administrative aspect that is within the responsibility of the government,” he said.
