Ali Pate, minister of health and social welfare, will speak on the surging prices of medicines and medical consumables at a webinar to commemorate TheCable’s 10th anniversary.
The webinar, titled ‘Addressing Escalating Cost of Medicines and Medical Consumables in Nigeria’, is scheduled for 2pm on April 30.
The online conference is organised by TheCable Newspaper Limited as part of its 10th anniversary celebration.
In 2023, major pharmaceutical multinationals announced their exit from the Nigerian market. The development led to a hike in the prices of medicines across the country, and it also coincided with a rising cost of living, which worsened the situation for Nigerians.

In January 2024, the federal government said it would issue an executive order to control pharmaceutical pricing and lower the cost of necessary medications in the country.
The planned interventions attracted varied reactions within and outside the country’s health sector.
