Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue, has appointed Deborah Serumun Aber as secretary to the state government (SSG).
In a statement on Tuesday, Tersoo Kula, chief press secretary to the Benue governor, said the appointment takes immediate effect.
Aber replaces Joseph Alakali, who tendered his resignation on Monday, citing “personal challenges”.
“Governor Hyacinth Alia has approved the appointment of Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah as Secretary to the State Government (SSG),” the statement reads.

“Barr. Aber is a seasoned solicitor and arbitrator with a strong sense of initiative and excellent analytical skills.
“She is a team player with good interpersonal skills who always strives for excellence and aims to contribute positively to the success and growth of an organization.
“She aspires to work in a reputable and challenging environment that encourages professionalism.

“Barr. Aber is a graduate of the University of Jos and Nasarawa State University.”
Kalu said Alia believes that Aber will add significant value to his government, while charging her to remain focused and align her work with his administration’s vision.
The governor appreciated Alakali for his service, wished him well and prayed for the strength to “tackle the challenges he chose to address”.
On Monday, Alia swore in six new judges for the state high court and customary court of appeal at the government house in Makurdi, the state capital.
