Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue, has inaugurated 33 new tractors for farmers in the state.

The governor also disbursed N380 million to community interest groups for “climate smart agricultural activities”.

The funds and tractors were provided under the community revolving fund (CRF) scheme of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL).

In a statement on Monday, Tersoo Kula, chief press secretary to the governor, said Alia is committed to improving the livelihoods of communities.

“Addressing these multifaceted issues necessitates a concerted effort across various sectors,” the statement reads.

“The ACReSAL project is specifically tailored to bolster institutions and implement activities that mitigate the environmental impacts of climate change.”

Kula said the governor created ACReSAL to enhance the skills of Benue people.

“This includes supporting efforts aimed at landscape management, improving community livelihoods and resilience, and strengthening institutional frameworks,” Kula added.

He urged the beneficiaries to be prudent with the resources, stating that the 33 tractors will benefit over 33,000 households in the state.

Some of the communities that benefitted include Wurukum, North Bank, Adeke, Mbagbera, Branch Atser, Mbayongu, among others.
