Like Fayose, Aliyu demands Mu’azu’s resignation

Babangida Aliyu, governor of Niger state who lost his senatorial bid in the 2015 election, has joined Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state, in calling for the resignation of Adamu Mu’azu, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking in Dutse, capital of Jigawa state on Saturday during the inauguration of a township road named after the then ‘G7 governors’ by Sule Lamido, governor of Jigawa, Aliyu said any leader who presides over his party’s defeat, like it happened in PDP, should ordinarily resign.

“It is unfortunate that people had to be called to resign. The leaders are supposed to voluntarily resign their positions for the loss at the just-concluded general election,” he said.

“It is unfair that they are threatening to form a factional PDP because they were asked to resign.”

Aliyu maintained that morality and principle were key attributes that the PDP must imbibe to succeed at future elections, adding that the nation’s politics would receive tremendous boost if Nigerian politicians emulate their counterparts in the United Kingdom.

Aliyu expressed delight in the naming of streets after the ‘G7 Governors’ and commended Lamido for his vision in terms of history.

Fayose has been consistent in demanding Mu’azu’s resignation since the 2015 elections, claiming the party’s poor showing in the PDP chairman’s state was enough for him to quit.

“In saner climes, when a war commander leads his troops to an embarrassing defeat, such commander does not need anyone to tell him that he needs to leave the war front for another commander to take over,” he said earlier in the week.

“How do we explain the PDP losing so scandalously in Bauchi state, despite the presence of the national chairman, federal capital territory minister and the state governor? I am even more particular about the national chairman because he sold the party to the opposition.

“I have cogent evidences of his unholy alliance with the opposition before the elections and if they go any further, I will expose all his underhand deals.”

Mu’azu responded two days later, saying he hoped Fayose’s “evidence of his unholy alliance” was not the same as the evidence he claimed to have on Muhammadu Buhari’s ill-health, in the lead-up to the presidential election.

  1. It does not matter who is calling for Muazu’s resignation and the fact that he supported Fayose does not mean that if Fayose sees the truth, he should keep sealed lips or look the other side – that attitude is corruption personified.

Muazu should resign because he has honor. His 2015 Presidential outing record was abysmal. Leaders who have vision and values win. When they lose, it is clear that they tried and their followers remain with them to the end. For that kind of result, who is Muazu leading? Where are his followers in Bauchi? Charity must begin at home. Leaders always refer to when they won this, won that, what story does he have to tell? How does he justify that level of a disgraceful result? What would he tell members when he calls for a meeting? It is a bit difficult to believe his failure is incompetence rather than sell out. From the time he took over the Chairmanship of PDP, nothing much has really happened in terms of uniting PDP. His threat of breaking off also sounds like an agenda to ensure that PDP does not regroup forever. If Muazu with “all the machineries” he had, could show this level of mediocrity, just think of what will happen when he has nothing and he is in opposition. The waves are very strong. He has nothing more to offer PDP. His response to Fayose is pitiful. Rather than deal with the issue he is casting aspersions on Fayose. He has a more strategic decision to make, which is to do what good Leaders are known for when they fail to deliver on the reason for their appointment/justify their failure.

We are in the era of change. Let change permeate PDP. PDP requires re-branding. They need new faces to stir the party and move it forward. Let another try. Muazu does not have the pedigree to form a formidable opposition. With him still there, PDP will die a natural death.

  2. Your comment..It would be a great lesson if Aliyu were to lead the spate of resignations after all he failed PDP woefully too

  3. I have said it and continue it. Pdp must die for a new Pdp to lead the opposition. Most post military era party in power have that pride that ultimately pull them down Pdp is no exception. However, death is inevitable so it resurrect after years of hard lesson. Adamu muazu don’t go any where. Remain and bury Pdp u killed.

  4. Jona should know by now that the same people he fought so hard to impress planned and executed his political round and the death of the PDP. From the Senate President to the key ministers from the North all worked for his down fall, Babangida Aliyu, and his brothers in the other states in the North that sold out to the APC, should also know that they have also dug their own political grave at least for the next 4 uears.

  5. During the campaigns, there were some truths that would have saved pdp if the president realised it.
Notwithstanding, we thank God for peace in the country. The northerners in pdp deliberately and heartlessly sold out GEJ, all of them. Some financed apc, some fed apc with pdp heart secrets (sabos), some campaigned for apc while some deliberately played inactive just to pave way for apc victory.
How come they all lost in their states even Sambo? Pdp national chairman is wicked and should resign.
Well, they actually fought to save their membership in OIC.

  6. PDP lost because the party has weakling, in the person of the president, as leader. He neither enjoyed the respect or loyalty of his party men and even the ministers appointed by him. He sat passively expecting to enjoy the goodwill of opportunists and hangers on around the corridor of power.

  7. I would say I am surprised at all the comments I am reading here. You are giving the electorates no credit or common sense to know what is good or bad for them. How possible is it to sell a rotten egg? With all the killings of their brothers and sisters and children, and the inability of the present government to do anything then, why would you expect any sane person in the north to vote the same party in again? PDP buried themselves because of their own decisions. The call for Muazu’s resignation should not be because he could not deliver but because he failed his people.
