Bayo Alli, former captain of the golf section of Ikoyi Club in Lagos, has returned 69 nett to win the 10th edition of the Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial Foundation (DOAMF) golf tournament.

The competition held over the weekend with about 180 golfers participating.

The DOAMF is a charitable organisation established in 2007 in memory of Daniel who died from injuries sustained in an accident along Lagos-Ibadan expressway in 2005.

“Winning feels good but doing it for a noble cause is even more fulfilling I commend the consistency of the organisers,” Alli said at the Gala night for competitors and guests.

“This foundation has made it possible for us to gather here and play for a cause that has impacted a lot of lives. The report of this tournament every year shows that this is a worthy venture.”

Alli was three shot better than Bode Adediji, who shot 71 nett playing off fifteen handicap, while Emma Okene placed third in the net category at the one-day meet.

The foundation is dedicated to the enhancement of education and healthcare of less privileged with scholarships given at various levels of educational pursuit.

The charity organisation also built the accident and trauma centre in 2011.

The annual event is supported by Price WaterHouse Coopers, Fidelity Bank, Providus Bank, ARM Pensions, Vacation Places, LandWey Investment Limited, Radial Circle Group, Zenith Bank Plc, First Bank, Channels Television, Silverbird Television, Grand OAK, Cappa & D’Alberto and SPAR (Park N’ Shop).

Others are Fidelity Bank Plc, Amni International Petroleum Development, Kansai Plascon Nigeria, Victoria Crown Plaza, Ikoyi Club 1938, Protea Hotel, Wheatbaker Hotel and Four Points by Sheraton.

Daniel Akujobi, founder of DOAMF and father to the Daniel, said that foundation would not relent in assisting the less privileged in the society.

“DOAMF is focused mainly on education because Daniel died in pursuit of that, and it is also concerned about providing efficient health care system for accident victims,” he said.

Fatoumata Valet won in the ladies better category while S.O. Oputa secured the topmost prize in the veterans’ category.

Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), commended the foundation for its dedication towards preserving the memory of a loved one by giving back to the society.

“I have had near death experience and I know for a fact that doing this year-in year-out is a courageous thing to do,” Pinnick, who was a special guest at the event, said.

“I am sure Daniel is smiling down from heaven for seeing how his memory is kept alive and seeing how the less privileged are being taken care of.”
