The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has called on Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, to intervene and halt the planned demolition of the African Independent Television (AIT) complex in the state.
In a letter addressed to Wike by John Ugbe, BON chairman, the organisation appealed to the governor to use his executive power to stop the execution of the demolition order.
“The attention of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has been drawn to a demolition notice served on the Daar Communications Plc complex in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State,” the letter reads.
“BON is hereby making a passionate appeal to Your Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State to use your Executive to quickly intervene which we trust would prevent the execution of the demolition order.

“The passionate appeal is borne on the following premises:
“Your Excellency has the Executive power to avert the demolition of the complex and we are making this special appeal to use this power to avert the demolition.
“Rule of Law: Your Excellency Sir, the dispute on the land is already a litigation matter before a court of competent jurisdiction, we are appealing to Your Excellency to allow justice to follow its natural course and due process.

“Our third appeal is that Your Excellency consent an out of court settlement of this matter as a media friendly Governor.
“We pray that Your Excellency on this special and passionate appeal, intervene by prevailing the government agency that served the demolition order to stay execution order.
“We have no doubt that as the Executive Governor of Rivers State, it is within your power to direct for a stay of the demolition order while we look for amicable ways of resolving the issue at stake.”
The BON leadership said it counts on the “understanding and speedy intervention” of Wike in the matter.
