Over a year after the unfortunate and mysterious death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad), his spirit seems to wander while his body remains unburied. Instead of allowing his soul to rest, his family remains embroiled in bitter disputes, turning his death into a never-ending public spectacle.
At a recent press conference in Lagos, tensions escalated as Mohbad’s mother, Abosede Aloba, clashed with actor Yomi Fabiyi over allegations concerning the late singer’s death. Fabiyi claimed that Mohbad’s younger brother, Adura Aloba, had sent him Instagram messages, alleging he possessed a video showing Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, pushing the singer down the stairs during an altercation and demanding ₦3 million to release it.
Mrs Aloba fiercely denied the allegations, declaring, “they killed Mohbad, and now you want me to lose his brother unjustly?” Despite her objections, Fabiyi insisted that his focus was on the content of the messages rather than their sender.

In response, Adura Aloba refuted Fabiyi’s claims, stating that the video was not his but had been recorded by Mohbad himself over three years ago. He explained that the footage had been stored on a phone he later sold to someone named Damola, accusing Fabiyi of distorting the facts to damage his reputation.
This latest controversy only deepens the turmoil surrounding a family already fractured by grief, accusations, and power struggles. The death of Mohbad in September 2023 sent shockwaves across the world. At just 27, the promising artist’s sudden demise led to widespread speculation and, unfortunately, the unravelling of his family. From the moment he was hastily buried in Ikorodu, Lagos, within 24 hours, everything seemed off-kilter. That rushed decision set the tone for the never-ending chaos that followed—battles over his estate, his widow, and even the paternity of his son.
Instead of mourning together in unity, the Aloba family has torn itself apart in full public view. Mr. Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, accused his son’s widow, Wunmi, of hijacking his late son’s assets. Meanwhile, Abosede Aloba accused Wunmi of betrayal, fueling an already volatile situation. What should have been a time for reflection and healing has turned into a messy and disgraceful feud.

At the centre of the ongoing family drama is the paternity dispute over Mohbad’s son, Liam. Joseph Aloba has repeatedly demanded a DNA test to confirm if the child truly belongs to his late son, citing the boy’s physical appearance as a reason for his doubts. “With what I am seeing, he’s not my grandson,” he stated in a recent interview.
Aloba insisted that the test should have been promptly arranged when he first raised the issue. He maintained that he would only accept Liam as his grandson if the test confirmed his paternity.
Further complicating matters, Joseph Aloba has made bizarre statements about how his life has “improved” since his son’s passing. He insinuates that his newfound success is a result of Mohbad’s spirit—a narrative that is both insensitive and deeply troubling. Instead of focusing on justice and unity, he seems preoccupied with his own gain, further deepening the family rift.
Meanwhile, the police investigation into Mohbad’s death remains inconclusive. An autopsy report suggested a possible drug reaction, but “delays” have fueled public suspicion. Interested members of the public who once passionately demanded justice now find themselves navigating a whirlwind of conflicting narratives, wondering if the truth will ever be uncovered. Despite the exhumation of his body, lingering questions remain unanswered.

At the heart of this unfortunate situation is a young man whose final moments remain clouded in mystery. Yet, rather than seeking closure, the Aloba family has turned his death into a battleground for personal vendettas. Every day, new allegations, fights, and counter-accusations emerge, further desecrating Mohbad’s memory.
The time has come for this madness to end. Joseph Aloba must step up as a father and bring some semblance of unity to his broken family. Abosede Aloba must channel her grief toward healing rather than confrontation. Wunmi must focus on preserving Mohbad’s legacy for their son. The constant infighting, media outbursts, and public humiliation must stop.
Mohbad’s body remains in the morgue, possibly in an autopsy suite, dissected and examined. In death, as in life, he remains in pieces, both physically and symbolically. But this does not have to be his legacy.
If his family continues down this destructive path, they will not only rob his son of a future but also ensure that Mohbad is remembered not for his music or talent but for the chaos that followed his death.
