A new private tertiary institution, Amadeus University, has opened in the Amizi community of Ikwuano LGA, Abia.

The launch was marked by a matriculation ceremony attended by the pioneer students, community leaders, and education stakeholders.

Godwin Nwabunka, the founder and board chairman, spoke at the opening and first matriculation ceremony of the institution.

He described the institution as the “culmination of years of experience and a deep passion for education.”

Nwabunka expressed his hope that the university would “continue to give that gift for generations to come”.

Godswill Akpabio, the senate president, officially opened the university.

He emphasised the need to eradicate the “out-of-school syndrome” through robust educational policies.

Akpabio lauded the institution’s equipped laboratories, which he described as the first of their kind in Abia state.

Augustine Akobundu, senator representing Abia Central, pledged a minimum of N30 million in scholarships for deserving students of Amadeus University.

Nwabunka, who is also the founder of the Grooming Centre, a microfinance company, highlighted the relationship between the university and the centre.

He stated that this alignment should serve as a model for the interplay between industry and academia.

He said over 4,200 students have already benefited from grant and scholarship programmes initiated by the Grooming Centre.

Samuel Nzotta, the vice-chancellor of Amadeus University, outlined the university’s developmental intentions.

He said they include plans to introduce faculties of law and medicine within the next two years.

Nzotta stressed the institution’s commitment to excellent facilities that will equip graduates with skills to become job creators.

Rounding off, Nwabunka acknowledged the support of traditional leaders, the Amizi community, individuals, and organisations.

He articulated his vision for Amadeus University to become a top global academic institution.
