Ambode appointed deputy chairman of APC south-west strategy committee

Akinwunmi Ambode, former governor of Lagos state, has been appointed as the deputy chairman of the south-west subcommittee of the contact and strategy committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ambode, who announced the appointment via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, said his appointment is to help build on the gains of the ruling APC in the south-west region.

“I was recently appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Southwest subcommittee of the Contact & Strategy Committee of our great party (APC), to help deepen & consolidate gains of the party in the region, prepare it as a strong & viable institution for the present & foreseeable future,” he tweeted.

In March, the ruling party set up the contact/strategy committee made up of 61 members.

John Akpanudoehede, national secretary of the caretaker/extraordinary convention planning committee (CECPC), had said the committee was constituted as part of efforts to rebuild and reposition the party.

Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun state; Dimeji Bankole, former speaker of the house of representatives; Yakubu Dogara, former speaker of the house of representatives; Sadiya Umar Farouq, minister of humanitarian affairs, and Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo, are also members of the committee.

While Daniel and Bankole recently defected to the APC, Ambode renewed his membership of the ruling party in February.

Ambode was denied the APC’s ticket for reelection, and became the first governor of Lagos to serve only one term in office since the return of democracy in 1999.
