Have Americans just elected the world’s most dangerous president?

“I will call for a total shutdown of Muslims from entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”

These were the words of Donald Trump, president-elect of the US, in response to the San Bernardino shooting of 2015 in which a Muslim husband and wife massacred 14 people and wounded 21 other people.

After a mass condemnation of his vitriol by Americans, Trump did not hold back. He issued a statement even ossifying his position.

“Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life. If I win the election for president, we are going to Make America Great Again,” he said.

Trump is undoubtedly a sponge of controversy. He is a “double-entendre” – fancied just as he is disliked.

But the Republican candidate trumped every obstacle from the media armada to beat Hillary Clinton, the Democrat candidate, who was preferred by many – especially those outside the principality of the US – in the election.

He has no experience in government or in the military. And he is even a neophyte in the game of politics. Yet he won.

While some people perceive him as blunt, and as an iconoclast, other people perceive him as unstable, and as a racist. Though he has said many times that “there is no racist bone” in him.

The billionaire businessman has made some “political career-ending” comments on blacks, Mexicans, Muslims and women. But it appears some Americans are enamoured with him despite his flaws. The proof of this is his electoral victory.

He once said “laziness is a trait in blacks. It is really, I believe that” while speaking with John O’ Donnell, former president of Trump Hotels and Casino.

Speaking at the launch of his campaign in Manhattan on June 16, he described Mexicans as rapists, and he called for a tougher border control.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us,” he said.

“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people. It’s coming from more than Mexico. It’s coming from all over South and Latin America, and it’s coming probably— probably— from the Middle East. But we don’t know. Because we have no protection and we have no competence, we don’t know what’s happening. And it’s got to stop and it’s got to stop fast.”

Also, Trump did not spare women in his verbal “blitzkrieg”.

According to Politico, in a New York magazine profile published in November 1992, a year after Trump divorced his first wife, Ivana, he was quoted dispensing his wisdom on how to handle the fairer sex.

“You have to treat ’em like shit,” Trump said in the article to friend Philip Johnson, who responded, “You’d make a good mafioso.”

Trump’s response: “One of the greatest‎.”

Recently, he was seen in a video making a comment about grabbing women by the vagina.

Despite all his failings, Trump is now the 45th president of the world’s largest democracy.

However, the consequence of America’s decision – whether negative or positive – will start telling in a few months when Trump assumes office.
