Aminu Daurawa resumes as Kano Hisbah commander — after meeting with governor

Aminu Daurawa, former commandant-general of Kano Hisbah, has returned as head of the corps.

The Kano State Hisbah Corps is a religious police force responsible for the enforcement of Shari’a among Muslims.

Daurawa had resigned from his position after Abba Yusuf, Kano governor, criticised Hisbah’s mode of operation in the state.

“I saw a disturbing video of a raid on a place and when the offenders are in the process of running away, sticks are used to hit them, and when caught, they are treated like animals and are thrown into a Hilux vehicle,” Yusuf said.

“This act is unacceptable and a big mistake. In the unfortunate event where someone is hit at the back, his spinal cord can be damaged.”

Daurawa said he felt discouraged by the remarks of the governor. The cleric apologised to the governor and wished him well.

In a statement on Tuesday, Sanusi Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, said Daurawa visited the governor alongside a delegation led by Musa Borodo and other notable Islamic scholars like Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa, Abdulwahab Abdallah, and Salisu.

“Briefing Government House Press Crew, Dr. Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa said Shiek Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa will resume his responsibilities tomorrow at Kano Hisba Board.”
