Aminu Kurami, Katsina APC lawmaker, dies in Saudi Arabia

Aminu Kurami, a member of the Katsina state house of assembly, is dead.

The lawmaker, who represented Bakori constituency in the house, was said to have died in a Saudi Arabian hospital on Sunday night.

Nasiru Zango, the spokesperson of the state assembly, confirmed the death of the lawmaker on Monday. 

He added that a statement will subsequently be released on the incident.

“We are sad to learn about the incident of the death of our colleague. He died in Saudi after he went there for the lesser hajj,” Zango told TheCable.

According to reports, Kurami was rushed to the hospital on Sunday although he wasn’t previously seriously ill.

Kurami, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a medical doctor before he joined politics.

In December 2020, he scored 20,446 votes in Katsina bye election to defeat Aminu Magaji, his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, who polled 11,356 votes.

The bye-election at the time was to fill the seat of Bakori state constituency in the state house of assembly, whose occupant, Abdurrazaq Tsiga, died in May 2020.
