Amnesty: Thugs have killed three #EndSARS protesters in Abuja

Amnesty International says suspected thugs who disrupted the #EndSARS protest in Abuja have killed three persons.

The human rights watchdog also said the suspects burnt dozens of cars during the attacks.

TheCable had reported how protesters in Abuja have come under different attacks, the latest being the one around Kabusa junction in Apo district.

Writing via its Twitter handle on Monday, the group said: “Armed thugs that launched coordinated attacks on #EndSARS protesters around Abuja have killed 3 protesters and burnt dozens of cars belonging to the protesters.”

Mariam Yusuf, the spokesperson of the federal capital territory (FCT) police command, was not reachable to comment on the attack.

The protest is part of a nationwide #EndSARS movement which started as an opposition against the now-dissolved special anti-robbery squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force.

The protesters are demanding better welfare and improved governance.

Although it had progressed peacefully in most parts of the country, some states are beginning to record violence as agitators are being attacked in places like Abuja, Lagos, Osun and Edo.

On Sunday, after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, urged the protesters to leave the streets and give the government a chance to carry out their demands.
