Amotekun arrests 33 suspects for ‘kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms’ in Ondo

Operatives of the south-west security network, code-named Amotekun, have arrested 33 suspects over alleged kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms in Ondo state.

Adetunji Adeleye,  commander of Amotekun in Ondo, on Monday, paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Akure.

Adeleye said six suspects were arrested for alleged kidnapping, five for alleged theft of motorcycles, while 22 were arrested for burglary.

The commander, who is also the special adviser to Ondo governor on security matters, said one of the suspects stabbed his victim.

“For the parade today, we have 33 suspected criminals that have been terrorising different parts of the state,” he said.

“Their activities range from kidnapping, housebreaking, theft, stealing of motorbikes, and trading in human beings

“Out of the 33 suspects, we have six suspected kidnappers. We have three of their victims who came to identify them.

“We have five suspects who specialise in stealing motorcycles. They disguise themselves as passengers and hit the drivers from the back. Sometimes, they stab them.

“We have a victim here who was stabbed three days ago but we were able to apprehend the suspect.

“We had arrested the suspect about two years ago and was sentenced to one and half years imprisonment. He came back and committed the offence after the third week.”

The Amotekun commander said the outfit is collaborating with other sister agencies to ensure that the yuletide season is crime-free.
