Amotekun parades ’19 suspected kidnappers’ in Ondo

The Ondo command of the south-west security network, also known as Amotekun, has paraded 19 suspected kidnappers in the state.

The suspects were paraded on Wednesday in Akure, the state capital.

Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of Amotekun, said over the last one month, the security outfit foiled three kidnapping incidents.

He said 17 out of the 19 suspected kidnappers were arrested from the state’s north senatorial district – a place prone to cases of abduction.

“Today, we are parading 36 suspects. In the last one month, there were three kidnap activities that we were able to foil successfully, which means that, in the last month, there has been no successful kidnapping in Ondo state,” he said.

“Today a cross-section of these criminals is different from what we used to have. It is a deviation from the past where we parade 20 people and 15 are kidnap suspects. Today, what we have is more of housebreaking and petty stealing.

“Across the board, we were able to foil a collection of people suspected to be kidnappers and robbers, that we were able to find through intelligence report we worked on.

“We picked about 17 of them in a particular area that is prone to attack. It is one of the black spots in the state where we monitor on a 24/7 basis.

“We equally have suspected murderers, we have 8 cases of house/shop breaking but I must say that with the co-operation of other security agencies in Ondo state, we have been substantially able to reduce criminal activities.

“A cross-section of these 36 suspects show that the level of daredevil robbers and kidnappers have gone down drastically in the state.”
