Amotekun rescues nine travellers abducted in Ondo

The Ondo command of the south-west security network, code-named Amotekun, have rescued nine of the 12 travellers abducted in the state.

The travellers, who were on their way to Lagos on Wednesday, were abducted by gunmen at Idoani-Ifira axis of Ondo state.

Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Adetunji Adeleye, Ondo commander of Amotekun, confirmed the rescue of the nine travellers.

According to NAN, he said the victims were rescued after Amotekun operatives responded to a distress call.

Adeleye said the operatives are still combing the bushes to rescue three other victims.

“Our men responded to the gunshots and a distress call. They got there on time and were able to rescue nine of them,” he said.

“They took them to our office in Isua and released them after giving them necessary attention.

“The vehicle and its driver have also been released to the police. We are now on the trail of the kidnappers to rescue the remaining three victims.”

Hakeem Sadiq, divisional police officer in Isua-Akoko, also confirmed the incident to journalists in Akure, the Ondo capital, on Thursday.

Sadiq said the anti-kidnapping unit is also working with other security agencies to ensure that the travellers are rescued unhurt.
