Amuneke ‘still awaiting confirmation’ as F’Eagles coach

Emmanuel Amunike, the Golden Eaglets FIFA World Cup-winning coach, is not getting carried away with reports that he is set to be named the coach of the Nigerian U20 team.

Amuneke’s appointment as Flying Eagles coach is believed to be one of the decisions reached at Tuesday’s meeting of the NFF executive committee.

But the coach, who spoke with TheCable on Wednesday from his base in Spain, said his employers, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), had not yet confirmed the news to him.

“I have not been briefed about this; it is news to me,” he said.

“I can’t really say anything on this now since NFF is yet to get in touch with me. It’ll be inappropriate to say something on it till it is communicated to me and things are finalised.

“Let’s wait till I am contacted. Not right for me to be making comments ‎on it for now. Once everything is sorted, I’ll talk on it.”
