The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has released an 18-athlete list to represent the country at the forthcoming World Relays in Guangzhou, China.

AFN unveiled the Team Nigeria squad on Instagram on Wednesday.

The list includes Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles, who will compete in the women’s 4x100m relay race.

Amusan has been vital to Nigeria’s recent success in the women’s 4x100m relays. She anchored the team to a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. However, Nigeria eventually forfeited the medal after Grace Nwokocha tested positive for a banned substance during the competition.

Amusan also led Nigeria to relay gold at the 2024 African Games in Ghana.

The World Relays will be Amusan’s first outing for Nigeria since she failed to make the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Olympics.

Other names for the women’s 4x100m are Favour Ofili, Chukwuma Rosemary, Umukoro Success, Eyakpobeyan Tiana and Chukwuka Obi Jennifer.

For the men’s 4x100m, the line-up consists of Akintola Alaba, Onwuzurike Udodi, Ashe Favour, Anunagba Karlington, Olaoye Folawiyo and Itshekiri Usheoritshe.

The mixed 4x400m squad comprises Okezie Chidi, Ojeli Ifeanyin, Nathaniel Samson, George Patience Okon, Idamadudu Praise, and Omolara Ogunmakinju. Meanwhile, Ashe, Alaba, Udodi, Chukwuma, Ofili, and Umukoro will compete in the first-ever mixed 4x100m event in an international competition.

The 2025 World Relays is scheduled to be held from May 10 to 11.

The top 14 countries in each event will secure automatic qualification for relays at the World Athletics Championships in Japan later this year.
