Law Mefor, Anambra state’s commissioner for information, says President Bola Tinubu appointed Bianca Ojukwu as minister of state for foreign affairs to ensure representation of the south-east zone in his administration.
Mefor spoke in a recent chat with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica.
On October 23, Ojukwu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was named as one of seven new ministers.
Her appointment as minister of state for foreign affairs stirred reactions within and outside the country’s political class.

According to Mefor, Tinubu’s choice of Ojukwu is strategic, intended to help him establish stronger connections within the south-east.
He also assured Nigerians that Ojukwu’s role in the federal government would not impede APGA’s position in Anambra state politics.
“President Tinubu is trying to make an inroad into the south-east, and he sees Bianca as one who could help him,” he said.

“Election is local, and Anambra State electorates are very sophisticated.
“The average Anambra State voter can handle ballot papers for Senate, House of Representatives, House of Assembly, governor, and president in the same election and distinguish between all of them. So when the time comes, there will be no problem.”
