The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has released the list of qualified candidates for the September 28 LGA elections.

NAN reports that Genevieve Osakwe, ANSIEC chairman, pasted the list on Wednesday at the commission’s headquarters in Awka, the state capital.

She asked members of the public to verify the list before the polls and urged candidates to begin their campaigns.

“The list is now available for public viewing,” Osakwe said.

“We encourage the electorate to actively participate by voting for their preferred candidates on election day.

“And I want to assure Anambra residents that the election will be conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.”

On July 11, the supreme court mandated the federal government to pay allocations directly to local councils.

The apex court also ordered the federal government to withhold allocations of LGs governed by unelected officials appointed by the governor.

As a result of the judgment, several states, including Delta, Kogi, Adamawa, and Imo, have raced to fix and conduct their LG polls.
