Chidi Ekwueme-Onyemelukwe has emerged the running mate of Oseloka Obaze, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the November 18 Anambra governorship election.
She is the daughter of Alex Ekwueme, a former vice-president.
Obaze said her experience in SMEs will help complement his efforts if he eventually wins the election.
He added that Ekwueme-Onyemelukwe was picked after “painstaking consultations” and from a shortlist of “very eminently qualified” members of the PDP.

Announcing her as his running mate on Wednesday, Obaze said: “In compliance with provisions of section 187 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, I, Oseloka Henry Obaze, after about three weeks of painstaking consultations with my family, the PDP hierarchy, stakeholders in the state and beyond, and the leadership of the Anglican communion, wish to present formally to the Anambra people in particular and Nigeria in general, Mrs. Chidi Alexandra Onyemelukwe as my running mate for the November 18 gubernatorial election.”
On the other hand, Tony Nwoye, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, picked Dozie Ikedife as his running mate.
He is the son of Dozie Ikedife, a former president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Wednesday the election will hold as scheduled.
Nkwachukwu Orji, the state resident electoral commissioner, said: “Any attempt to shift the date would be waste of resources. We need to conclude the election as scheduled so as to focus on the 2019 general election.”
